Extbase Variable Dump'Professor Michael Hoelscher, M.D., is the Director of the Institute of Infec
tious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at LMU University Hospital in Munich an
d a leading expert in tuberculosis research and global infectious diseases.
He also heads the Fraunhofer ITMP Site for Immunology, Infection, and Pandem
ic Research (IIP) in Penzberg/Munich and is Munich Site Chair at the German
Center for Infection Research (DZIF). He studied medicine at the Ludwig-Maxi
milians-Universität (LMU) in Munich. During his internal medicine and microb
iology training, he worked at the US Walter Reed Institute and the Mbeya Ref
erral Hospital in Tanzania. <br> Appointed Professor and Director of Global
Health & Infectious Diseases in 2010, he has led various TB clinical trials,
diagnostic studies, and vaccine trials. As Chief Investigator of the PanACE
A network and Scientific Leader of UNITE4TB, he plays a key role in advancin
g global TB research. He is the author of numerous publications on HIV, TB,
and infectious diseases, and was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2022
